These soft, sustainable towels are quick and easy to weave on your rigid heddle loom. Make yourself a fabulous thick and sustainable towel that is a pleasure to hold onto!
We include instructions for weaving one towel using plain weave, and one towel using a pickup stick. If you don’t want to use a pickup stick, you can weave the towels in plain weave. Scroll down for more information.
3/2 and 5/2 Mercerized Cotton Yarn – Tubular Spectrum
Tubular Spectrum™ yarns are 100% mercerized cotton yarns, available in 46 vivid, intense and very color fast colors. The yarns will withstand years of washing and will keep your handwoven treasures looking bright and colorful! American Maid™ Unmercerized White Cotton Yarn
Natural white, sustainably produced, unmercerized cotton yarn. Perfect for all your soft handwoven items. Strong enough for warp in any of the sizes, and soft and absorbent for anything you can dream up. It makes wonderful towels, baby blankets, napkins, or cuddly throws.
*As of 2022, the 20/2 size is only available as a NON-American Made yarn. The cotton in the 20/2 yarn currently comes from Egypt. All the other yarn sizes are 100% American Made.
3/2 American Maid™ Naturally Colored Yarn
Sustainably grown, colorful cotton yarn straight from American cotton fields to you! This American made yarn is available in the colors that it is grown in, no dye required! Available in: Brown, Green, Natural White (the color of “white” cotton before it is bleached) and Bleached White. Additionally, Natural White is also available in 6/2, 12/2 and 20/2*. Weekend Washcloth Instructions
Instructions for the Weekend Washcloths. Looking for a quick project to use the wonderful 3/2 Tubular Spectrum™ yarns? How about a pile of washcloths from three brilliant colors of yarn? Three colors of yarn build an interesting warp that you can weave with a solid weft or make fun plaids. The finished sizes of the washcloths are approximately 10” x 10”. Instructions use three 4 oz cones of 3/2 Tubular Spectrum™ Mercerized Yarn and are written for Rigid Heddle or 4-shaft looms.

Both the napkin and placemats have instructions for either shaft looms or rigid heddle looms. Makes 3 placemats. “For all good things” Runner/Towels/Placemats Kit
This overshot name draft kit by dje Handwovens uses our very own American Maid™ natural color cotton yarns to make 4 placemats.
The natural color green or golden tan cottons used for the pattern get darker with washing! Warp length allows for 20″ thrum waste plus allowances for take-up, tie on. Maximum weaving length is 76″. Finished width: 13″
Kit makes either 4 placemats (13″ wide x 16.5″ Long) or 4 towels or one 72″ long runner—or any combination you decide!
“Au Natural” 4 Napkin Kit
The newest member of the “Au Natural” kits line from DJE Handwovens–a set of 4 napkins. This kit again features the soft American Maid cotton yarns. There is enough yarn for 4 napkins or 2 towels.
The napkins have 2 color and weave patterns-one for the border and one for the body. Instructions are included to change the combinations.
