Value Scale

A Color’s value refers to how dark or light that color is when compared to a value (gray) scale. The value scale ranges from high (light) values like white, with an absorbance value of 0, to low (dark) values like black, with an absorbance value of 100. Lighter colors absorb less light and send more back to the eye, and darker colors absorb more light and send less light back to the eye.

To use:

Here is a value scale to determine the value of your yarns.  Lay your yarn on top of the scale and squint your eyes.  When the yarn seems to disappear, the value of the yarn is similar to the value on the scale.
