These unmercerized cotton yarns are wonderful to work with. The yarn is soft, absorbent, and it comes in a wide range of colors. The softness of the resulting fabrics is lovely. We have also been impressed with the wash fastness of the colors. However, as with any unmercerized yarn, please be aware of the potential for color transfer, especially the first time you wash them. We do have color trapping sheets available to add to the first wash bath for added convenience.
The bleached white and natural white yarn is our very own American Maid yarn. It is the PERFECT compliment to the Maurice Brassard yarns!
We recommend hand washing the first time you wash your handwoven items. Wash in warm to hot water with a mild soap, and rinse well. Wring out inside a bath towel, and then dry on medium heat in dryer along with the bath towel. After the first time, if there is no color transfer, we feel free to wash in the washing machine and use the dryer. Please be aware that unmercerized cotton yarns do continue to shrink if washed repeatedly in hot water and dried in a hot dryer.
