These unmercerized cotton yarns are wonderful to work with! However, as with any unmercerized yarn, please be aware of the potential for color transfer, especially the first time you wash them.
We recommend hand washing the first time you wash your handwoven items. Wash in warm to hot water with a mild soap, and rinse well. Wring out inside a bath towel, and then dry on medium heat in dryer along with the bath towel. After the first time, if there is no color transfer, we feel free to wash in the washing machine and use the dryer. Please be aware that unmercerized cotton yarns do continue to shrink if washed repeatedly in hot water and dried in a hot dryer.
Sett these yarns at 16 epi for lace weaves, 18-20 for plain weave, and 20-24 for twill weave structures. You can also weave with these yarns on your rigid heddle loom by doubling the yarn and using a 10 dent reed. The variegation looks best if you pair it with a solid color when you are double warping the yarn.
