On the Road Again! – Blog Post

The Lunatics took the show on the road last weekend and wowed the crowds at WeFF, the annual sale/show/classes/gathering of the Southern California Handweavers Guild.  The Big Guild in Southern California!  We reconnected with old friends and made new ones talking about fiber projects with new weavers, weaving teachers and experienced weavers, as well as spreading the gospel of working with string to the previously uninitiated.

Rigid Heddle Fun!

We were thrilled to get several new weavers started with Crickets and Ashford Rigid Heddle Looms.  Before we left the shop, Amber warped a Cricket Loom with the yarn from the Dull to Brilliant Weave-a-long Collection.  It was the perfect way to show potential weavers what is possible with these fun little looms.  And now that Cricket weavers can easily move up to shaft weaving by adding the Cricket Quartet there are even more possibilities!

Tubular Spectrum Yarns - Star of the Show!

The brilliant colors of  Tubular Spectrum™ mercerized cotton yarns drew people into our booth, and the 44 colors looked amazing in the California sunshine!  We brought 20/2 (we have been weaving 20/2 with our GevolveYarns™ and we had requests to bring that size yarn) and a good collection of 10/2 and 5/2.  We did have some requests for 3/2, which sadly, we decided not to pack!!  If we are coming to your town and you are especially interested in a particular product, let us know and we’ll try to shoehorn it into the van.  (It’s a good thing Michele is short, and the seat can be all the way forward!)

Kits by Local Designers!

Our newest kit, the Stained-Glass towel or washcloth kit was a hit and sold out.  Big kudos to Kelly Sandusky, a wonderful Idaho designer who developed this Color-and-Weave kit for us.  And the gorgeous kits designed by Cynthia Newman from Oregon were also a big hit.

GevolveYarns - Bumpy, Stretchy and Interesting Textures!

The unique, shiny yarns in our GevolveYarns™ Collection were a big hit at WeFF.  It was a great opportunity for folks to see the GevolveYarns up close.  No matter how good our photography is, it doesn’t compare to seeing these incredible yarns in person.  Keep an eye out for more posts as we use these interesting yarns more and more!

Soft American Maid™ yarns!

The American Maid™ Naturally Colored yarns are another product that looks great in pictures, but nothing can compare to feeling the Big Beach Wrap Blanket or any of the other projects woven with this yummy yarn.  And what a wonderful venue for Beach Blankets...we sold out completely on those kits!

Make a Splash! with Hemp Yarns!

We also sold out of the new Splash! Towel kit that combines the American Maid™ yarns with our Lyte Hemp™ yarns.  One more thing that is better in person.  We can’t wait to do some samples of the Splash! kit with some of the amazing colors of Lyte Hemp™ yarns.  Or, you can weave some luscious towels and send pictures to us!

Next Stop...Bend, Oregon and Logan, Utah!

We had soooo much fun in Southern California, and we and look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones at ANWG in Bend, Oregon and Intermountain Weavers Conference in Logan, Utah this summer.  And wherever the winds take us next!!  Happy Travels!!

And don't forget, we will be doing another edition of Loons Live! on May 17th.  See you there!

 Michele and all the Lunatics
