Cotton hand carders are used to prepare cotton and other fine luxury fibers for spinning. The teeth are shorter and finer than wool carders because the cotton fibers are thinner and shorter than wool. The Carding area for the Schacht carders is 10.5″ x 4″ with 209 PPSI (Points Per Square Inch), and the Ashford carders are 10.5″ x 3.5″ with 190 PPSI.
Schacht has built a lifetime of service into their hand carders. They have a small lip milled into the rear edge of the paddle to protect the card clothing from becoming worn and the handles have been precisely tenoned into the paddles for superior strength. We stock these cotton carders with curved paddles. With 208 points per square inch, the Schacht Cotton cards are excellent for cotton and other short fibers.
Ashford Carders are designed specifically for cotton and extra fine luxury fibers. These carders are lightweight (17.5 oz per pair) and are easy to use. The 10.5″ x 3.5″ carding pad has 190 wire teeth per inch set in a flexible rubber back. They come with a natural timber finish that can be enhanced with Ashford Finishing Wax. They are designed for long life.
