Pantone just released their color of the year for 2021! And it is not just one, but TWO colors: Illuminating (13-0677 TCX, 106 C) and Ultimate Gray (17-5104 TCX, Cool Gray 7 C).
This year’s choice of color of the year comes with a message of hope and strength from the company, Pantone: “As people look for ways to fortify themselves with energy, clarity, and hope to overcome the continuing uncertainty, spirited and emboldening shades satisfy our quest for vitality. Illuminating is a bright and cheerful yellow sparkling with vivacity, a warming yellow shade imbued with solar power. Ultimate Gray is emblematic of solid and dependable elements which are everlasting and provide a firm foundation.”
When we first saw these two colors, we thought of the light at the end of a tunnel. We too hope that 2021 brings new strength and hope, and of course, beautiful weaving!
To further this goal of beautiful weaving, we would like to showcase the yarns that we have in stock that match these two colors. The ones listed below with an asterisk (*) are a good match. The others are close, but not what we feel are a direct match.
Please be aware that these are intended as suggestions, NOT definitive choices. As we all know, colors on the cones look very different from the colors in the fabric. That is part of the magic of weaving, and as we gain experience with color, we learn how to exploit those shifts to get the fabric how we want it. And the colors that appear on your monitor may differ from the real colors, and colors do vary by dye lot. If you want to see the colors firsthand, we do offer a wide selection of color cards.
If you are looking to add the colors to your weaving software, we have the hex colors and RGB numbers available for our Tubular Spectrum Yarns here.
With all of that being said, here are our color choices:

We were thinking of log cabin placemats as a place to start. Here is a log cabin draft as a swatch. Perhaps we will use Tubular Spectrum mercerized cotton yarn in 3/2 sett at 10 epi or 5/2 sett at 18 epi.
