Pirns for End-Delivery Shuttles

Pirns are the bobbins for End-delivery shuttles. The weft yarn unwinds off the pirn’s tip when the shuttle is in motion and stops unwinding when the shuttle stops. The yarn comes off the pirn and goes through a set of tension pads and comes out of the shuttle at a constant tension. This even delivery of weft causes less draw-in, which in turn makes better selvedges.
These plastic pirns come 5 to a package, in two sizes: 6″ and 8″. Choose 6″ lengths for the Schacht 12″ end-delivery shuttle and 8″ for the Schacht 15″ end-delivery shuttle.
The wide end goes onto the bobbin winder, and you fill them starting at the wide end and working down to the tapered end. The yarn will pull off the tapered end first, so you want to wind that part last.
