With Style and Grace! An Awesome Dishcloth!

After we published the post about Katzy’s search for the perfect washcloth, Amber came into the shop with her version of the perfect crocheted washcloth!  Wow!  Amber knocked all our socks off!  She used the 4-ply naturally colored American Maid ™ yarn that we are selling as a closeout yarn and combined it with our Bold Lyte Hemp™yarn.

Here is Amber to tell you all about what she created.

Crocheting a Dishcloth with 4-ply American Maid™ and Lyte Hemp™ yarns.

 by Amber H.

Hey everyone, Amber again, the crochet Lunatic. This time I decided to try and make some dishcloths with the 4-ply American Maid ™naturally colored cotton and combine it with the Bold Lyte Hemp yarn.  I wanted to combine the light brown 4-ply cotton yarn and the Bleached White Bold hemp yarn.

I found a pattern by Claire Jackson (Perfectly Knotted) called the Waffley Cute dishcloth.  Here is the link to the pattern.  It uses the waffle stitch to make this adorable dishcloth.

2 hours and done!

I used a 5mm crochet hook and it took me about 2 hours to make one dishcloth.  I used a little more than a hundred yards of both the 4-ply yarn and the hemp yarn to make one dishcloth.

The texture of the combined yarns left a rough texture which is exactly what I anticipated for dishcloths. They are perfect for scrubbing those dishes and counter tops! To my surprise, the combination of yarn did not bother my fingers as it continuously ran through them. The 4-ply American Maid™ yarn is rather soft and the Bold Lyte Hemp™ is slightly coarse. They work well together.

Dishcloths or Hot pads?

These dishcloths are thick enough to be used as hot pads as well.  Both the American Maid ™ yarn and the Bold Lyte Hemp™ are heat resistant. This is a bonus for crocheters who normally use acrylic yarn.  In my experience, acrylic is not suitable for any heat. I had to learn the hard way as I gifted some acrylic dishcloths to my family, and they were used as a hot pad and they ended up melting.

The hemp and cotton yarn have a different texture than I was used to, but I was rather excited to have other options rather than acrylic yarn.

Fun to Try New Yarns!

In conclusion, these dishcloths work up quickly. They provide a rough texture as well as the stitch providing texture as well. If you are seeking a quick and easy combination for dishcloths/washcloths, I recommend trying out the waffle stitch and the American Maid™ yarn paired with the Bold Lyte Hemp™.
