This Kit contains enough 8/2 American Maid™ Naturally Colored Yarns to weave 4 different towels. All of these yarns are made from cotton grown here in the American west, and spun in the US. We purchase the cotton lint from farmers who use modern sustainable farming practices. The brown cotton was grown in New Mexico, and the green cotton was grown in California. The white cotton is Cleaner Cotton™. This is the trademark name for cotton grown by farmers enrolled in an ongoing project in California called the Sustainable Cotton Project. Grown without using the 13 most toxic chemicals in conventional cotton production in California, utilizing non-genetically modified seed, and biologically based integrated pest management practices.
When you wash the finished towels with baking soda, it will change the color of the yarns. The green cotton is especially affected by the alkalinity of the wash water. And, the colors will deepen over time.
