End-delivery shuttles are the Ferraris of the weaving shuttles. They are the kind of shuttles used by automated weaving mills around the world. These end-delivery shuttles from Schacht Spindle Company are a lightweight and beautiful version for handweavers.
The end-delivery shuttles use pirns filled with the weft yarn. The pirns remain stationary inside the shuttle, instead of spinning freely inside a boat shuttle. The weft yarn unwinds off the pirn’s tip when the shuttle is in motion and stops unwinding when the shuttle stops. The yarn comes off the pirn and goes through a set of tension pads and comes out of the shuttle at a constant tension. This even delivery of weft causes less draw-in, which in turn makes better selvedges. Before throwing the first shot, adjust the weft yarn tension as it leaves the shuttle using the enclosed Allen wrench to suit the yarn you are using and allow your shuttle to do the work.
When using an end feed shuttle, resist the temptation to handle the weft yarn at all while you are weaving. You’ll love how this can make your weaving go more rapidly than ever.
